My wife became profoundly ill with multiple sclerosis and I became her caretaker.  As a consequence, I lost my business and we have gotten extremely behind on bills.  I have decided to go to gradualte school to get my PhD in Molecular Biology, but I had to take out a huge loan to do so.  Where is all this stimulus money for school that I'm hearing about?  Also, we've been renting a single family house, but the owner has become elderly and wants to sell.  Currently our only income is SSDI and SSI and I wonder if there are any programs to help people like us buy the house we've been renting for 16 years.  I'm a little scared that because we're behind on our utilities, potential landlords won't rent to us.  I did go to a HUD first time homebuyers class and received a certificate worth five thousand dollars toward a down payment, but I'm still doubtfull we would qualify for a mortgage.  I know about the 8K mortgage credit, but I'm wondering if it's still available.  My thanks to anyone who has a comment.
